In聽2021, Professor David Vaughan of the School of Journalism, Media & Visual Arts, was approached by Leah Gaffen from聽, an initiative that works with bilingual children聽in聽the Czech Republic. Working together on a project involving radio, and inspiring stories from children, this collaboration brought to life something beautiful…

Leah and her colleagues were interested聽in聽family history and had the idea of putting together a project with Czech Radio. We decided to invite children and teenagers aged eleven to eighteen to write a story聽in聽English about someone聽in聽their family who had inspired them or influenced how they see the world.

We then invited the children to International鈥檚 studios to record them reading and talking about their stories.” – David Vaughan

聽Many of the stories are beautifully and sensitively written. They offer subtle and often unexpected insights into recent Czech, and Czechoslovak, history, and sometimes into places far beyond this country鈥檚 borders!

The stories form the basis for a new weekly radio/podcast series,聽础听厂迟颈迟肠丑听颈苍听罢颈尘别, which began on November 12th, 2022, the first episode of which you can find .
